C’mon Clarence!

Clarence Correctional Centre – March 2021 (PDF version)

Clarence Birdseye was an American entrepreneur widely credited as being the inventor of frozen food.

But it is the company that runs his namesake Correctional Centre that now appears to be frozen in time.

Your union, the CPSU NSW, last met with management on Friday 12 February 2021. Having undertaken its survey of members, which we are grateful for many of you completing, the CPSU NSW was able to table its log of claims at that meeting. This was essentially a wishlist of what we consider should be included in the agreement. That log of claims can be viewed by members HERE.

Serco advised it would need some time to review this document and prepare a response, and another meeting was set for Friday 5 March 2021 in order to grant it time to do so.

Yesterday Serco advised it was not adequately prepared to proceed and requested that this week’s meeting be postponed.

Serco has repeatedly stated it is keen to negotiate an enterprise agreement as quickly as possible to address recruitment and retention issues.

The CPSU NSW shares this goal on behalf of its members.

But that requires work by all parties, and at the moment Serco’s glacial response contradicts its intentions.

We remain ready and willing to put the work in on your behalf to get the result you deserve. We’re calling on Serco to do the same.

Correctional Supervisors

The CPSU NSW has heard loud and clear from its membership that Correctional Supervisors want to be included in the enterprise agreement.

This would appear to be consistent with other agreements across the country in the industry.

Serco has been advised of this position and reminded in correspondence which can be found HERE.

Like other issues, we wait with anticipation for Serco’s response.

Delegates

Once again, thank you to the incredibly talented group of your peers who have nominated to be CPSU NSW delegates. They are our eyes and ears on the ground, and also our best means to communicate with you. Please introduce yourself to them whenever you have a chance, and if you have an issue in the workplace, make them on of your first ports of call. They are:

Tom Bloomquist
Tyson Franke
Alex Paull
Tammy Priddle
Sasha Vasilieff
