University of Newcastle Infrastructure & Facilities Services Restructure

University of Newcastle Infrastructure and Facilities Services Restructure – May 2016 (PDF version)

The change proposal for IFS was released on 31 March 2016 when briefings were held with unions and staff. The PSA (CPSU) thanks members for receiving a wide range of feedback on this proposal.

The PSA (CPSU) collated the feedback into a formal submission, which was delivered on 26 April 2016. You can read the submission HERE.

The main concerns are that the university continues to promote an outsourcing model, doing away with permanent jobs. Expanding the services outsourced makes no sense at all when the university is already unhappy with the quality of service being provided by the contractors involved.

All facilities will be affected in one way or another with the deletion of 33 positions, including security and caretaker roles. The PSA (CPSU) is concerned about potential impact on the safety and wellbeing of staff and students. This is particularly poignant given the past history of safety on campus.

A further meeting will be held on 9 May 2016 to discuss the feedback received by the university and the final change proposal released.
