We want you: Become a PSA CPSU NSW Delegate and support your fellow members

The PSA CPSU NSW recently visited Ability Option  group homes between Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour. Disabilities Organisers Michael Smart (Mid north coast) and Alex Sala (Sydney) met with many Disability Support Workers (DSW) and House coordinators in these areas, and captured the following matters to raise with Ability Option Management:

• Staff ratio to House Coordinators. While the majority of House coordinators are managing 2 group homes (even one in both Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbor), who looks after the immediate matters in each site? Who takes care of these when House coordinators are on leave, or training or must attend conference?
• Does anyone get the opportunity to act up or get paid higher duties when the above occurs?
• New participants in group homes. Has further training been provided from Ability Options to staff regarding high behavior needs participants. Have proper risk assessments being presented and consulted on, and have staff ratios increased to liaise with these matters? It is very good when a vacancy is filled at a group home, provided staff ratios are complied with and proper behavior assessments are conducted, and training provided.

PSA CPSU NSW Delegates are a point of contact for members when workplace issues arise. They are also responsible for recruiting new members to the union to build power in the workplace.
