The CPSU NSW was on site today to seek feedback from members regarding Serco’s latest wage offer for the new Enterprise Agreement (EA). Unsurprisingly, the feedback that we received in relation to this offer was overwhelmingly negative.
The General Manager committed to putting the Enterprise Agreement out for a vote this week. Before the vote can occur, there is a legally mandated ‘access period’, which means that employees must be given a copy of the Enterprise Agreement and any information relating to it seven days prior.
The CPSU NSW will contact all members as soon as the access period for the proposed EA commences.
In the meantime, the CPSU NSW has been made aware that there are a multitude of extremely serious safety issues occurring at the centre that are not being actioned or dealt with by the upper echelons of Serco management.
We will email all members further information over the course of the next week about what rights you have under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (NSW), and what actions you can and cannot take in order to ensure your health and safety in the workplace.
The CPSU NSW is also in the process of setting up an issues register that members will be able to fill in when there is an incident at work. This will most likely be a form that you can fill out every time something occurs, which will then be collated by the union. The intent of this is to ensure that every single issue is brought to the attention of Serco, therefore preventing them from denying any knowledge of past or ongoing safety issues in the workplace. It will also serve as evidence in the event that external authorities, such as SafeWork Australia, are required to inspect the premises for any reason.
The CPSU NSW will be back on-site next week to meet with members regarding the ongoing EA negotiations, and to formulate a proper plan for addressing the WHS issues brought up in today’s meeting. We will send out a further bulletin once dates and times for this visit have been confirmed.
