TAFE NSW Extreme Heat

Extreme Heat hitting NSW 24 and 25 January 2024

The CPSU NSW acknowledges that Thursday 24 and Friday 25 January 2024 are forecast to be days of extreme heat weather.

We note that many inquiries have been made regarding faulty airconditioning at TAFE NSW campuses. All members are encouraged to lodge Work Health and Safety concerns with TAFE NSW where such unacceptable conditions exist.

The CPSU NSW has written to TAFE NSW reminding them of their duty of care and that should an employee become concerned for their health and safety they should not be required to work in an unsafe environment.

More information can be found from SafeWork NSW: https://www.safework.nsw.gov.au/hazards-a-z/working-in-extreme-heat

Members are encouraged to:

  1. Report concerns with their supervisor or manager;
  2. Lodge a WHS concern in the system and keep records;
  3. Move to an area that is cooler, where available;
  4. Continue to hydrate with water;
  5. Speak to the CPSU NSW if you believe TAFE NSW is not minimising risks to your health and safety.

Stay safe this summer.
