Parklea Correctional Centre Enterprise Agreement update

After the ‘no’ vote, the union contacted MTC and reaffirmed our commitment to the bargaining process. We took the opportunity to advise MTC that the union’s counteroffer still stands, and requested a response from MTC. This conversation occurred after MTC advised the union in writing that they were looking forward to ‘scheduling a new time to meet to continue discussions.’

Last week, after the union contacted MTC, we wrote to the Managing Director formally. You can read a copy of the letter that we sent here. To date, the union has heard nothing from MTC. They have not bothered to contact the union or respond to the union’s letter.

The union will contact MTC once more to see if they are willing to come to the bargaining table to continue negotiations. If they refuse, then the union will immediately lodge an application in the Fair Work Commission to seek their assistance with bargaining.

The union will keep members updated and will let everyone know if MTC decides that it would like to recommence negotiations. In the meantime, and as per usual, if you would like to discuss anything with the union, please contact Brian Kirk, Mark Ward, Jess Epps or Kim Villanti.
