Yesterday, the union met with MTC regarding MTC’s latest offer. As you would know, MTC tabled the following offer last week:
The union sought feedback, both in person and online via a survey, and over 95 per cent of members rejected the offer. The union subsequently provided this feedback to MTC.
MTC have advised that they will go back and calculate what a pay increase minus the sign-on bonus would be, if the sign-on bonus were to be converted to a percentage increase to the base rate. The union agreed to meet with MTC on Friday to see what this looks like.
However, the union advised in MTC in no uncertain terms that the union’s previous offer (4 per cent per annum including superannuation and a $1500 sign-on bonus) would be the only offer that the union would accept. This is the offer that was endorsed by the members. The union advised MTC that any offer tabled that is less than this will not be endorsed or supported by union members.
As per usual, MTC made a point of saying that they couldn’t afford more than 2.5 per cent per year, despite the fact that we all know this is not true. The union also advised that, if MTC does not come to the table and give the union an offer actually worth considering, the union will consult with members and notify MTC of further industrial action.
The union has received a lot of feedback concerning further industrial action, particularly concerning when this should be held (in other words, on a weekend or weekday). This is your EA, and so members will decide what the next round of industrial action looks like (if it comes to that). We have put together a survey for you to complete in this regard, which you can access HERE .
If you could please take the time to complete this short survey, that would be very much appreciated.
The union will update members on Friday afternoon once we meet with MTC. If you would like to talk to someone from the union in the meantime, please contact Mark Ward or Brian Kirk. You can also call Jess on 0401 521 561 or Kim on 0408 249 277
