Clarence Correctional Centre Enterprise Agreement update

Yesterday, the union was on site to discuss the latest offer with members. As you know, Serco put out an offer to members at the eleventh hour prior to the last 48-hour strike. Despite the fact that we didn’t have to agree to get feedback with such a tight window we agreed to do so. Members overwhelmingly rejected the offer, and the stoppage went ahead.

Serco has reiterated to the union that its offer won’t change. The union proposed a counteroffer to Serco, which was endorsed by the membership, but Serco has stated it won’t be budging. We did, however, take the opportunity to let Serco know that members were not happy with overtime being reduced to fund the pay increase.

That said, we acknowledge that the turnaround for the feedback leading up to the 48-hour stoppage was incredibly tight, so we wanted to give members a little more time now to let the union know how they feel about the offer now that you’ve had a bit more time to digest it. We would like it if you could fill in the following survey: www.surveymonkey.com/r/2YWP6XH.

If members are still opposed to the offer, the union will advise Serco accordingly and continue to push for the union’s counteroffer. We will also consider our industrial options moving forward.

It is more important than ever to let us know what your thoughts are. The union and its delegates go to every meeting and relay your views, so it is critical that as many members complete the survey. We will leave it open for the rest of the week, and then organise to have another meeting with Serco.
