International Day of People with Disability

Today is International Day of People with Disability.

The day gives us a chance to note that under both Federal and NSW Coalition Governments, funding to the disability sector has declined by at least 10 per cent. There have been no NSW Government-run disability services in this state since 2018. We have concerns about the low staffing levels and the level of care for those with complex and challenging needs.

On this day the union that represents disability workers, the CPSU NSW, calls for:

  • Increased government funding to the disability sector
  • More training and support for disability support workers
  • Statutory staffing ratios to ensure quality and safe services
  • Safety net government run services
  • Guaranteed consultative arrangements between unions and employers
  • Secure, permanent jobs in the sector and a cut to casualisation.

See my video presentation to mark the day HERE.
