Life Without Barriers: Joint Consultative Committee Meeting

Your CPSU NSW representatives and workplace delegates Darren Borrow and Vicki Ingersole, attended a Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) meeting with LWB on 22 June.

The following matters were discussed on behalf of CPSU NSW members:

Mentoring and Recruitment

The CPSU has previously raised concerns around DSW’s taking on mentoring and training of new staff. As a result of our advocacy, LWB has developed a new three-day induction program that has relieved some of the extra mentoring and training that DSW’s have had to perform. AS part of these changes, LWB has committed to reducing the number of agency staff usage across the organization.

Ongoing Leave Loading Issues

As members would have seen in the update we provided last week, the internal investigation of this issue was much larger than first thought and this lead to delays in coming to a resolution. Where top-up payments are required, they will be paid on 21 July. Any overpayments that may have been made in the past will NOT be recovered by LWB.

External Cleaning Services

The CPSU has received a number of queries regarding the introduction of cleaning services conducted by external providers. LWB was questioned on this issue and we have been assured that such instances are one-off in nature and will only be used in circumstances where a ‘deep-clean’ is required on an ad-hoc basis. The use of such services will NOT impact on the hours or work available to members.

Manual Handling Training

The existing delivery of manual handling training has proven to be deficient with continually high incidence of injury. LWB has been conducting pilot programs in Victoria with a focus on providing onsite, location specific training. So far, the programs have proved successful and will be expanded to the NSW operation. The CPSU is in favor of minimizing workplace injuries to members.

Roster Review Consultation Process

LWB is proposing to examine and update the internal process of roster construction and review. This process is used where client’s needs change. The CPSU will be heavily involved in monitoring this review and will provide input to ensure members’ rostering needs are respected. At this stage, the CPSU is pleased with the input that staff and the Union will have under this process to ensure members are adequately represented.

The next JCC is scheduled for September.

If you have and concerns about the above or any other issues, please contact the CPSU NSW.
