This year’s Sydney May Day rally will be on Sunday 6 May.
After the huge success of the May Day rallies in 2016 and 2017, the PSA/CPSU NSW will be joining other unions in Hyde Park that day at 11:00am to celebrate the successes of the past and to face the challenges of the future.
The vast majority of Australian workers are not sharing in the riches of our booming economy. Recently, the government has been crowing about “record jobs growth” but the number of unemployed Australians has not changed in over a year.
There are still more than 700,000 workers without a job.
Under-employment is a big problem for a huge number of families, as is the casualisation of jobs that used to be permanent, secure and well-paid.
Most Australian workers have not had a real pay rise for some years as governments and businesses refuse to reward workers for their productivity. Higher profits are not trickling down as promised.
And whilst the government insists giving tax cuts to business will prompt them to increase wages, most employers are openly saying that they have no intention of doing this.
Times have changed. The industrial laws that once worked to balance the relationship between employers and employees are no longer fit for purpose.
It is time to #ChangeTheRules so that all Australian workers and their families get a fair go.
Join us on Sunday 6 May at 11am in Hyde Park North. Bring a placard. Bring your family or friends.
There will be food and fun things for the kids.
See you there!
