University of New South Wales – NO MORE JOB CUTS

University of New South Wales – NO MORE JOB CUTS – August 2017 (PDF version)

Every faculty across the university (other than Canberra) is under yet another restructure, effectively implementing a ‘spill and fill’ approach for professional staff. The CPSU NSW, the professional staff union, has seen universities and other employers implement “Shared Services” resulting in reduced quality and timeliness of the support that professional staff provide to the faculties.

In making matters worse than a ‘spill and fill’, the university appears to be targeting long-term professional staff to become displaced. This seems to be affecting older professional staff more than others.

Your union has been advocating for some time for displaced staff to be able to apply across the university for vacant positions. This has finally paid off!

In this round of workplace change, the university has included provisions for displaced professional staff, who don’t get a position in their faculty, to move to other similar positions in other faculties. This is a great outcome won by the CPSU NSW for professional staff at UNSW.

The CPSU NSW will be fighting to save professional staff jobs, and fighting against “Shared Services” model that only CUTS the jobs of professional staff and results in worse outcomes for students and academic members of the university.

Your union, the only union that supports only professional staff, is only as strong as the members involved. Attend the CPSU NSW meetings to get involved. Ask your professional staff colleagues to JOIN the CPSU NSW – share this update with your colleagues. Ask your colleagues to attend a CPSU NSW meeting.
