CPSU/PSA save 28 jobs in Library restructure and redundancy program

CPSU/PSA save 28 jobs in Library restructure and redundancy program June 2015 (PDF version)

In October 2014 Sydney University released a Final Change Plan for the University Library. Included in this proposal was the plan to make over 100 positions redundant.

On June 3 2015, the CPSU/PSA succeeded in mapping the HEO 3 Library Assistant, Client Services positions into the new structure. This is despite these positions being ear-marked for redundancy since October last year.

This victory has saved 28 jobs in the Library system. This is a result of the relentless campaign from CPSU/PSA members, under the strong guidance of the Sydney University Branch Committee.

The CPSU/PSA will continue to play a vital role in supporting those staff who are fighting their redundancies, and will continue to campaign for our members in any area facing the same attacks.

Sydney University Branch President Grant Wheeler states:

This is a small but significant victory with life changing implications for those members we have assisted. This goes to show what hard work and a relentless approach can achieve. We have much more work to do, but if we stand together under the CPSU/PSA banner and build union strength together, there are few limits to what we might achieve.

This victory has only come about due to the strength of CPSU/PSA members in the workplace.
