Macquarie Enterprise Bargaining Update 3

Macquarie Enterprise Bargaining Update 3 August 2014 (PDF version)

All Staff Listening

Your current Macquarie University Enterprise Agreement expires this year on 30 September 2014.

This means that your pay and working conditions (including all leave entitlements, workload clauses and restructure processes) will soon be up for negotiation.

Your union, the CPSU/PSA has been holding workplace discussion groups, or “Listenings”, in order for staff to share your most important needs and concerns in regards to your working conditions. The next Listening is scheduled for:

Wednesday 13 August
1:00pm – 2:00pm

This Listening will be open to non-members as well as members

Take the opportunity to make sure your pay and conditions meet your expectations and participate in our Listenings. Whilst ALL staff will benefit from the CPSU/PSA bargained Enterprise Agreement, only members can decide on EXACTLY what the union bargains for.

Some questions to consider in developing your log of claims:

  • What are the conditions in your current enterprise agreement that you consider are important to your working life that must be preserved?
  • Are you having difficulty obtaining variable hours so that you can enjoy a flex day or rostered day off? Why is the opportunity of working variable hours not available to all staff at Macquarie University?
  • Is your workload manageable? How many hours of unpaid work are you putting in? Are you taking your lunch hours?
  • Were you over looked for a promotion? Do you believe the selection procedures and the appeals against non-appointment meet your needs?
  • Do you believe you have job security? How many restructures have you been through in the last few years?
  • Are you still working on a contract or casually employed when you know the ongoing work and funding is there?
  • Are there any other matters you would like raised during the Enterprise Agreement negotiations?
  • Do you have a disability? Are you receiving adequate support in your work?

If you are not a member, join today. Only members may vote on exactly what the CPSU/PSA bargain for ALL Professional Staff.

During 2014, you will be asked to attend a meeting (Listening) on campus to discuss the new Enterprise Agreement.

We would like all members to have some input into the new agreement. After all, this is the agreement your union will be making with the university for the next few years. If you think the current agreement can be improved, you must let us know.

The feedback we receive from the Listenings will inform the development of our claims for Enterprise Bargaining.

The meeting will be for one hour during lunch.

The following three questions will guide each Listening:

  1. What are the three conditions of employment you value most working at the Macquarie University?
  2. How do you think you could be better recognised and rewarded for your work at your Macquarie University?
  3. What do you want your Macquarie University to look like in five years?
