CPSU NSW UNSW – Fair Work Ombudsman Prosecution of Record Keeping and Payment of Casual Staff

UNSW has advised CPSU NSW as of 31 July 2024 that the Fair Work Ombudsman has initiated legal proceedings against the institution in relation to breaches of their obligations to Casual Academic Staff.

The University has been accused of failing to maintain accurate and correct records and pay Casual Academic Staff in a timely manner.

In response, the University has advised that any workers affected by these payroll or records issues are encouraged to contact their HR Business Partnering Team.

The University has also provided that as part of ongoing review, the scope of historical underpayments may be expanded to include all staff cohorts, as well as potential training for all payroll staff on record keeping and pay obligations with a particular focus on Casual staff.

If any member of the CPSU is affected by further upcoming review, we also encourage you to reach out to us for further advice and support by writing to or call 1300 772 679.
