Union talks on career progression have started – Join the CPSU NSW and have a say about your career at Coal Services

Union talks on career progression have started – Join the CPSU NSW and have a say about your career at Coal Services – March 2018 (PDF version)

This is a union bulletin from the CPSU NSW alerting Coal Services employees about the latest exciting developments at your workplace.

CPSU NSW officials met with management on 7 March 2018 to commence the Classifications Committee set up under the enterprise agreement. The enterprise agreement stipulated that this Committee will be formed within 12 months of the agreement coming into effect.

The enterprise agreement has not, at this stage, been approved by the Fair Work Commission, but the parties have met as a good faith gesture to commence talks.

This committee will look at how employees progress their career within Coal Services, including how to move up a pay scale and cross-directional career change moves for staff.

At our preliminary meeting on 7 March 2018 the CPSU and management formulated terms of reference to set common goals for this Committee. We considered things like:

  • How does career progression work to climb classifications under the agreement?
  • Will progression be skills based, competence based or performance based?
  • How will the process be made fair and centralised?

A series of meetings have been agreed to with management, so if you want to be in the know we would encourage you to sign up to your union.

Union membership also gives a range of other benefits such as discounts through Union Shopper, Provident Fund (effectively funeral insurance), Journey Insurance (to cover injuries to and from work) and industrial advice and representation.

We can’t help you unless you are a member so if you are not a member of the CPSU yet – unless you are employed as a nurse we would encourage you to join by clicking on the following link: https://membership.psa.asn.au/register.
