Requests were made to include the compassionate leave in line with the National Employment Standards (the NES). The University was strongly opposed to removing compassionate leave from the Special Leave so the CPSU drafted a compromise to incorporate the NES provisions into the Special Leave.
The University has agreed to most of these changes. These include, that Compassionate/Special Leave can be used for where a family member or household member is seriously ill or injured in a life threatening circumstance. And that when Special Leave has been used up, Compassionate Leave will be available at 2 days per occasion, unlimited. The final wording will be confirmed at the next meeting.
