TAFE NSW Update Use of Personal Phones – July 2020 (pdf version)
The CPSUNSW has been contacted by a number of members concerned by the request of TAFENSW to use their personal phone for work related activities.
On 9 July TAFENSW rolled out multifactor authentication for access to essential software. TAFE is now recommending staff use their personal mobile phones to download PingID app to allow them to log into essential software – for SAP this has to be done every day.
While TAFENSW have offered a ‘desktop’ version, it is not practical. It requires staff to use only that desktop, meaning they cannot use multiple computers (eg library staff moving between their desktop and the circulation desk); they cannot use a desktop in another location, and they cannot use a netbook at a meeting in another room.
TAFENSW staff are not required to have access to a personal smartphone to undertake essential duties.
TAFE cannot assume all staff have a smart phone present with them at all times, and a phone which is capable of doing this; or that they wish to use their personal equipment in this way.
The CPSU NSW is recommending that staff do not use their personal mobile phones for essential work related activities.
