URGENT UPDATE: CPSU NSW CONTINUES FIGHT AGAINST THE NEW ENTERPRISE AGREEMENT

URGENT UPDATE CPSU NSW CONTINUES FIGHT AGAINST THE NEW ENTERPRISE AGREEMENT

As you know your employer Northcott will be conducting a ballot over the next few weeks for an Enterprise Agreement which will detrimentally affect the pay and conditions of transferred DSWs on the preserved state award. You can read how this proposal is unfair for transferred staff HERE

The CPSU NSW does not endorse the proposed Enterprise Agreement and urges you to vote in the ballot and vote NO.

Protected Action Ballot

In addition, the CPSU NSW has successfully taken steps to seek an order from the Fair Work Commission to enable its members to take protected industrial action against the proposed agreement.

This will involve CPSU NSW members voting in a ballot on whether they support the proposed industrial actions.

This ballot will be conducted by the Australian Electoral Commission and the voting process is completely independent of the CPSU NSW and Northcott.

The AEC has requested that Northcott circulate a notice setting out the details of the protected action ballot. You can expect to receive this notice from Northcott shortly.

What is a protected action ballot?

A protected action ballot is a process by which employees can choose, by a ballot, whether or not to authorise protected industrial action for a proposed enterprise agreement.

The CPSU NSW has taken this step as Northcott’s proposed unfair Enterprise Agreement will see transferred staff lose pay and conditions. The protected action ballot will ask members to vote on the following:

In support of reaching an Enterprise Agreement with The Northcott Society, do you authorise industrial action against your employer, separately, concurrently and/or consecutively, in the form of:

  1. One hour stoppages of work?
  2. One day stoppages of work?
  3. Indefinite stoppages of work?
  4. The inclusion of statements in support of the Union’s bargaining claims and/or explaining why the Union is taking industrial action, in workplaces of The Northcott Society and communications with any person?”

The CPSU NSW recommends that all members vote YES to ALL FOUR questions.

More detailed information about voting in the ballot will be provided in a further bulletin.

Remember that this is a process separate from the ballot for the proposed Enterprise Agreement that has been started by the CPSU as part of its ongoing campaign against the unfair agreement.
