Holiday reading: Keep up to date with the summer edition of Red Tape magazine

The current issue of Red Tape is out now.

Our cover story for the summer issue covers the crisis hitting Out of Home Care. Yet another outsourcing disaster, NSW has a Child Protection system where non-government providers house children in serviced apartments and motel rooms, often cared by inadequately trained contract staff.

To make matters worse, staffing levels in Child Protection are at a crisis, with unfilled vacancies and high burn out among stressed and overworked employees.

The summer issue is full of stories of union triumph, from an end to for-profit prisons in Junee, a return of to better maintenance of public housing to individual wins such as a member getting unpaid uniform allowance.

We look at the resolution of the Officer A trial and the Not Guilty verdict that has kept him out of prison.

Plus, we have highlights from our Mental Health Conference and Aboriginal Conference.

As usual, readers are treated to the usual array of columns, news stories and reviews.

Remember, you can also access Red Tape online at www.redtapemagazine.com.au or download a PDF version at the PSA and CPSU NSW websites.
