VOTE NO FOR A FAIR GO – PART 3
UNIVERSITY OF NEWCASTLE ENTERPRISE BARGAINING
ASK AND YE SHALL (NOT) RECEIVE

Yesterday University management put a proposed enterprise agreement to ballot of all employees.  They do so without having reached agreement with bargaining representatives at the table, and as such last week CPSU NSW Members voted unanimously to REJECT the agreement.  If you haven’t already done so, here is another good reason why to VOTE NO.

At the commencement of enterprise bargaining, the CPSU NSW put forward its log of claims – a wish list of what we would like to see in the agreement which was formed after consultation with its membership.

It is a timely moment to revisit that log of claims and see how much of it was considered and agreed by management, and what was outright rejected:

Agreed Not Agreed
  • Improvements to long service leave;
  • “Fair and reasonable” pay increases
  • Improved job evaluation and classification processes;
  • Improved conversion rights for fixed term and casual employees;
  • Redundancies as the last resort;
  • Limits of use of labour hire, volunteers and casuals;

  • Union access to staff inductions;

  • Employer superannuation contributions to be maintained at 7 per cent above legislative minimum;

  • Enhanced classification progression;

  • Scholarships for children of employees;

  • Fee discounts for children of employees;

  • WHS improvements;

  • On-campus mental health support;

  • Enshrined remote working arrangements;

  • Improved flexible working arrangements, including the reintroduction of terminology and clarification in the flexitime scheme;

  • Enhanced sexual harassment protections that include employer accountability;

  • Backfilling of staff on leave; and,

  • Grandparent leave

Does it seem like the University weren’t listening to you?

VOTING NO to the proposed agreement which includes very little of the conditions you sought, is one way to tell management that you deserve better!

This is another reason why the CPSU NSW bargaining team, and its membership, are urging all staff to VOTE NO for a FAIR GO!
