Labor’s plan welcome, but more needs to be done

The CPSU NSW welcome’s Labor’s plan to fund 465,000 TAFE places.

However, more needs to be done. For a start, TAFE NSW needs to reverse the thousands of jobs cut by former Managing Director Steffan Faurby and his predecessors. The sale of TAFE campuses must stop. Students need proper, hands-on TAFE campuses, not computer-based Connected Learning Centres.

TAFE was the gold standard in Vocational Education and Training (VET) but under the Coalition we’ve seen it become a shadow of its former self. Labor must re-establish TAFE to its rightful place, as the world’s best VET provider.
