Secondment opportunity: Acting Regional Organiser Wagga Wagga

Secondment – Dec 2020 (PDF version)

The PSA/CPSU NSW is a growing union that advocates strongly for its members’ interests. Our members in regional NSW make a significant contribution to the communities they work and live in through the services they deliver and the economic injection their wages provide.

We are seeking expressions of interest from members to act as a Regional Organiser for the South West Region of New South Wales on a temporary basis for up to six months from 1 February 2021. This is due to a period of extended leave by the current position holder.

Our relevant Regional Office is located at the Charles Sturt University campus in Wagga Wagga, and whilst the successful candidate would ideally be based in the same town, this is negotiable.

The employment arrangement will be a secondment from your current employer with whom you will continue to maintain your employment relationship and receive your salary, but the PSA will be invoiced for your employment expenses whilst you work with us. Sustenance will be payable for overnight work travel away from the successful candidate’s place of work. A work vehicle and mobile phone will be provided with reasonable personal use permitted.

The duties of a Regional Organiser include the recruitment of members for the union, representing the PSA/CPSU NSW membership at local and regional consultative committees, advising and supporting members with individual issues in their employment, attendance at PSA/CPSU NSW Central Council in Sydney, and the identification and support of workplace delegates.

Regional Organisers report to the Industrial Support Manager Shay Deguara and the Assistant General Secretary.

Essential criteria include:

  • Experience as a workplace or Departmental delegate in your agency or Department
  • An understanding of the operations, coverage, structure and purpose of the PSA
  • Experience in representing or supporting colleagues in your workplace
  • Knowledge of relevant industrial law including Awards and agreements
  • A current NSW drivers licence.

A brief (2-3 pages) Expression of Interest and CV can be sent to by Friday 8 January 2021. Interviews for the position will be held if necessary.
