University of Wollongong: CPSU NSW member update

Update – Oct 2020 (PDF version)

It has been a busy year at the University of Wollongong (UOW) and your CPSU NSW Branch is continuing to work through issues and support Professional Staff members during this difficult period.

Now the variation to the agreement has gone through, your Delegates are keeping an eye on faculty and unit restructures and the impacts on individual and collective workloads due to staff leaving the university.

Voluntary Early Retirement Scheme (VERS)

As CPSU NSW members are aware, the VERS offers have been made and accepted by staff at the university.

In the coming months, as staff leave, there is the possibility that a faculty or unit may redistribute work performed by departing staff amongst the remaining staff. This will add to their workload.

CPSU NSW position

Your union advises members not take on work that was performed by a role that is no longer required.

If CPSU NSW members have concerns or would like advice about changes in their area, please contact one of the Delegates listed at intranet.uow.edu.au/cpsu/contacts/index.html

We remind members they can also discuss their workload under clause 32 Performance of Duties 32.4 of the University of Wollongong (Professional Services Employees) Enterprise Agreement 2019.

Workplace change

Another flow on from staff leaving is that a faculty or unit will look to reorganise the workplace. CPSU NSW members have reported there is change management occurring in their areas at UOW.

The CSPU NSW is developing resources for members to help navigate the process and we can schedule further lunch and learns sessions on this topic. In the interim we encourage members to read over clause 49 of the agreement that outlines the change process.

What’s ahead?

Your Delegates and industrial officials will be putting together a range of resources and holding members’ meetings to get your feedback and input as we continue to navigate through these unprecedented times.

Retiring members

Members who are retiring can still be a member of the CPSU NSW by joining the Retired Associates. For more information, go to psa.asn.au/member-services/retired-associates
