TAFE – Update on the Student Management System (SMS) project – September 2018 (PDF version)
Your union CPSU NSW, attended a briefing with TAFE NSW on 13 September 2018 in relation to the SMS project.
Deputy Chair of your Delegates Council, Patrick Kiss, attended with Industrial Officer, Phoebe Dangerfield.
The briefing was about the function and capacity of the new SMS and changes between the current EBS and the new SMS.
We don’t know as yet when Stage 3 will be released but we are led to believe that it will be a significant improvement on the current system.
Your union was concerned that this new system, for which members will require significant training, will have an impact on the Group 6 Restructure and clarified that TAFE needed to ensure that staff were upskilled prior to SMS being included in the duties of positions affected in the restructure.
We were encouraged by the system’s proposed capabilities and the future potential of the automated services.
Details of the options available have been provided as commercial in confidence and we therefore cannot expand further until TAFE release this information to staff.
