Charles Sturt Uni News: Broad-Banding – in depth discussions over University’s concerns, CPSU to draft claim.

We discussed in depth the University’s concerns over introducing broad-banding.

They don’t want to have the 10 levels turn into 5, and dont want to have all staff automatically able to go up an extra level without that work being genuinely valued at being at the level.

This was never in our claim, and the CPSU will draft a proposal that should hopefully meet the University’s concerns.

The examples they gave were of “dual classified” positions. For example, a position dual classified as Level 5 and Level 6, where the duties at either Level 5 or Level 6 were explicit, and progression to the Level 6 classification would only occur when the staff member was experienced enough and/or had achieved the required qualification to do the level 6 work, and the level 6 work was available.

We will be tabling a draft proposal to see if an agreement can be made on a draft model. Any proposed model will be sent to members for feedback and approval before its included in the Agreement.
