International Women’s Day 2020: Events

IWD Events – Feb 2020 (PDF version)

This year the PSA/CPSU NSW celebrates 90 years of Women’s Council

Sunday 8 March 2020 is International Women’s Day. This year’s theme is “Generation Equality” and IWD global is “#Each for Equal”.

The PSA CPSU NSW now has women making up 62 per cent of our membership and supports the celebration of women each year. IWD gives us the opportunity to reflect on the achievements we have reached in the fight for women’s rights and gender equality. It also reinvigorates us!

We have fought for equal pay, equal access to job opportunities, paid parental leave and job security, flexible work hours, family and community service leave, and lactation breaks. Most recently, in 2018 we achieved 10 days’ paid domestic violence leave for public sector employees and access to leave for surrogacy and out of home care. In 2019 the PSA achieved an incredible victory with the “Equal Pay Case” for School Support Staff, wining large salary increases that corrected years of gender based underpayment.

International Women’s Day is also about the celebration of women worldwide and the promotion of economic empowerment, gender equality and basic human rights.
