Cases of miscalculations of leave balances

Cases of miscalculations of leave balances – April 2019 (PDF version)

Members need to be advised that your union has dealt with a handful of cases where management has miscalculated people’s leave balances and have requested deductions of leave.

CPSU NSW advises if management writes to you claiming historical miscalculations we strongly advise you not to submit to management’s calculations.

Come to your union first.

We have intervened in a handful of cases and got management to conduct another more thorough audit, and in some cases Management has found their initial calculation was in error.

Members also need to be aware that the Industrial Relations Act 1996 (NSW) prohibits an employer from deducting an employee’s remuneration unless that deduction is authorised “in writing” by the employee.
