Cyclone Alfred: Special Leave or Working From Home for TAFE NSW members

Shortly Cyclone Alfred will be making landfall in Queensland, and Northern NSW. Your new acting Managing Director sent an update to all TAFE NSW staff yesterday informing them of which campuses have become evacuation centres, and which campuses are closed until further notice.

In anticipation of Cyclone Alfred please be safe, and prepared.

Part of being prepared is not having to worry about what happens when your campus is closed. Clause 92 of your Enterprise Agreement accounts for Natural Disasters and Emergencies. As per the Managing Director, Special Leave or Working From Home is available to all TAFE staff in the impacted campuses listed below:

  • Ballina
  • Byron Bay CLC
  • Casino
  • Grafton
  • Kingscliff
  • Lismore
  • Maclean
  • Murwillumbah
  • Murwillumbah CLC
  • Trenayr
  • Wollongbar
  • Yamba CLC

Your rights under clause 92.2

Where paid leave is not available or has been exhausted, Special Leave may be granted to employees impacted by Natural Disasters / Emergencies as determined by TAFE NSW, or in the event that TAFE NSW cannot provide or facilitate work due to a natural disaster or emergency.

The Managing Director has advised that Special Leave can be granted and Working From Home be made available to effected employees, if it is deemed safe to work (deemed by you).

Please stay safe during this time and focus first and foremost on you and your family’s safety.

If you need assistance accessing your leave or WFH arrangements, please refer to the Managing Director’s notice, and/or contact the CPSU NSW on 1800 772 679.

In union,
CPSU NSW
