Welcome to 2025. Late last year the CPSU NSW sent out this bulletin updating you on your pay rise.
As of 31 January 2025 the NSW Government is yet to finalise your pay rise. The reason for this is contingent on the Senior Official Wages Advisory Committee (SOWAC) and the Expenditure Review Committee (ERC) sitting dates. Since TAFE NSW was kicked off the meeting agenda late last year, your pay rise has to wait until the committees commence sitting this year.
The SOWAC and ERC fall under the NSW’s Premiers Department and any pay-rise negotiations must go through committees to gain approval. This process is never fast, the committee and government officials need to coordinate that the bargaining agreement and the resulting pay rise falls legally within legislation, and the NSW Government’s and Premier’s pay-rise parameters.
Following consideration by SOWAC, the agency’s portfolio Minister and the Minister for Industrial Relations are to submit the proposal to Expenditure Review Committee of Cabinet for approval. Due to the nature of the state’s parliamentary and committee sitting dates, the time between 2024 and 2025’s sitting dates is extensive, which means so far, no action has been undertaken within these committees since our last update to the membership.
The CPSU NSW bargaining team has worked diligently over the last few months and has done everything it can to ensure the process was expedited so you could receive your pay-rise.
This final step is entirely the Government’s hands now. Neither the CPSU NSW, nor TAFE NSW can influence the process at this stage.
So that you can clearly see where we are up to in the process, we have included the flow chart below.
