The CPSU NSW met with Life Without Barriers (LWB) management in June. A summary of the meeting can be found HERE. Further to the bulletin, the union reminds members of the following rostering process for filling vacant and relief shifts. The rostering hub is open 6:00am – 7:00pm, Monday to Friday. The rostering hub has the primary responsibility for filling vacant and relief shifts during operational hours according to the system of priority set out below.
Tier 1 | |
1.1 | Any Part time or full-time staff member that has had a shift cancelled, is familiar with the client / location / program, and can be assigned a replacement duty inside the original hours of the cancelled shift |
1.2 | Part time staff that are free from duty, are not in overtime and are familiar with the clients / location / program |
1.3 | Casual staff that are free from duty, are not in overtime, and are familiar with the clients / location / program |
Tier 2 – Only to be used when all Tier 1 options are exhausted | |
2.1 | Part time /full-time/Cas staff that are on another duty and can be extended to stay back or start early to cover unfilled shift, are not in overtime and are familiar with the clients / location / program |
2.2 | Part time or full-time staff that are on another duty and agree to be removed, are not in overtime and are familiar with the clients / location / program |
2.3 | Casual staff that on another duty and can be removed, are not in overtime and are familiar with the clients / location / program |
2.4 | Part time staff that are free from duty, are not in overtime, are familiar with the clients / location / program and the additional shift may result in award condition breach but has been mutually agreed by Employee (Eg Min 4 RDO) |
Tier 3 – Only to be used when all Tier 2 options are exhausted | |
3.1 | Any Part time or full-time staff member that has had a shift cancelled, is not familiar with the clients / location / program and can be assigned a replacement duty inside the original hours of the cancelled shift (This option should only be explored if the client services confirm there are no safety or wellbeing concerns with an unfamiliar staff being rostered.) |
3.2 | Part time staff that are free from duty, have submitted matching availability, not in overtime and are not familiar with the clients / location / program (This option should only be explored if the client services confirm there are no safety or wellbeing concerns with an unfamiliar staff being rostered.) |
3.3 | Casual staff that are free from duty, have submitted matching availability, are not in overtime, and are not familiar with the clients / location / program (This option should only be explored if the client services confirm there are no safety or wellbeing concerns with an unfamiliar staff being rostered.) |
Tier 4 – Only to be used when all Tier 3 options are exhausted | |
4.1 | Part time or full-time staff that are on another duty and agree to be removed, are not in overtime and are not familiar with the clients / location / program (This option should only be explored if the client services confirm there are no safety or wellbeing concerns with an unfamiliar staff being rostered.) |
4.2 | Casual staff that on another duty and can be removed, are not in overtime and are not familiar with the clients / location / program (This option should only be explored if the client services confirm there are no safety or wellbeing concerns with an unfamiliar staff being rostered.) |

5.1 | Any staff that are free from duty, available to work, are in overtime and are familiar with the clients / location / program |

Outside of operational hours, the filling of shifts will be done by DSLs. Members have advised that they believe there has been unfairness and favouritism when DSLs allocate shifts. The CPSU NSW will raise this with LWB when we next meet in August.
