Reminder: 48-hour strike this week!

As you may know, Serco was supposed to meet with the union last week and subsequently cancelled at the very last minute. As a result, the union put out a survey to all members asking whether they wanted to proceed with a 48-hour strike. Almost every single member supported going out the gate for 48, which is exactly what we are going to do.

This week’s planned stoppage commences on Wednesday 26 October 2022 at 6:00am and ends on Friday 28 October 2022 at 7:00am. What this means is:

  • If you are rostered on Tuesday for the night shift, you can leave at 6:00am on Wednesday morning (even if you are rostered to finish at 7:00am).
  • If you are rostered on Wednesday (day or night shift) or Thursday (day or night shift), then you do not need to turn up to work at all.
  • Work resumes as per normal on Friday morning at 7:00am, for those rostered on the Friday day shift.

There are no special events planned for this week, but the union will be on call for the duration of the strike. If you need anything, please call Jess on 0401 521 561 or Kim on 0408 249 277.

Once again, we would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that you are under no obligation whatsoever to advise Serco as to whether you intend on participating in this week’s stoppage or not. Serco’s contingency plans for the stoppage are a matter for Serco, and not for you. The whole point of taking protected industrial action is to disrupt operations. Letting them know in advance of your intentions will only allow them to better plan for the stoppage, which defeats the purpose.

Serco contacted the union a few hours ago and asked to meet tomorrow morning. We haven’t been advised as to what time the meeting is, but we will send a bulletin to all members following the meeting to let you know what is discussed.

In the meantime and as per usual, if you have any questions, you can get in touch with the union by sending an email to , , , or .
