Let’s talk bargaining

Your union CPSU NSW, has begun initial discussions around enterprise bargaining, which will commence in the New Year.  If you’ve already filled out our pre-bargaining survey, thank you. Forgot? Do it here.

Part of those discussions involves your union asking you, our members, what you think of an Interest-Based Bargaining vs Positional Bargaining approach.

What does that mean?

Interest-Based Bargaining (IBB) is a collaborative method of bargaining. It works well when all parties are on good terms (yes, it is possible) and is all about consensus. This means that the interests behind claims are looked at, and all parties are satisfied that their interests have been met.

Positional bargaining is the most commonly used method of Enterprise Bargaining, but is by nature more adversarial. Parties come to the table with pre-determined positions, presented through a Log of Claims.

There are pros and cons to both approaches, and it is certainly possible to conduct Positional Bargaining while using IBB principles.

What does this have to do with me?

Your bargaining team represents you. It is essential that members inform us of their positions and wishes when it comes to their Agreement.

Let’s talk!
