NSW Health imposes vaccination requirements for Disability Workers in bid to reduce COVID-19 transmission

This morning, the NSW Premier announced additional rules aimed at reducing the transmission of COVID-19.

Currently, the new mandatory vaccination rules only apply to those members who either live or work in the current Local Government Areas (LGA) of concern.

If you are unsure of whether or not you live within an LGA, you can confirm HERE.

The new rules state that:

  • Disability Support Workers who live or work in the LGAs of concern must have their first vaccination dose by 30 August
  • Authorised workers who work outside their LGA of concern are only permitted to work if rapid antigen testing is implemented at their worksite or they have had their first vaccination dose by 30 August.

Disability Support Workers are considered authorised workers.

It appears that these new rules only affect members who either work or live within those LGAs of concern and therefore there are no changes to existing rules for those in the remainder of the state.

The Public Health Orders have not yet been updated following this morning’s announcement and we are currently in discussion with NSW Health. We will provide further information as it becomes available.

In the meantime, the CPSU NSW strongly encourages members to get vaccinated as soon as possible to ensure the safety of themselves, their families, their customers, and the community at large.

If you have and concerns, please contact the CPSU NSW on 1300 772 679. We’re here to help.
