Australian Unity payroll issues reported to Fair Work Ombudsman

Payroll Issue – Nov 2020 (PDF version)

You will have received a recent email from Kevin McCoy, Chief Executive Officer, advising you of the outcome of a review of Australian Unity’s payroll systems and processes for Copied State Award and Enterprise Agreement covered employees.

Payroll issues identified

This has uncovered underpayments and overpayments for employees covered by Copied State Award and Enterprise Agreement covered employees including in Home and Disability Services (HDS) and as part of a separate review, the discovery that some current and former employees have not received all their superannuation entitlements.

CPSU conference with Australian Unity

The CPSU NSW met with the CEO and senior officers on Tuesday 10 November to be briefed on the implications for members.

Australian Unity has expressed its regrets to the CPSU NSW on behalf of its members and provided assurances to the union that it will work as quickly as possible to rectify these issues in accordance with the timetable you will have received, including notification to the employment regulator, the Fair Work Ombudsman, and the Australian Taxation Office with respect to superannuation entitlements.

Australian Unity has undertaken to liaise with the CPSU NSW during the process of addressing these matters, including a dedicated Joint Consultative Committee in the near future.

What happens next

The CPSU NSW’s members are relatively less affected by this outcome than other employees. You will be notified directly by Australian Unity if you are affected.

However, if you have any concerns about your entitlements you are encouraged to advise Australian Unity immediately, and if you require further assistance, the CPSU NSW.

What you can do

These events illustrate the importance of closely scrutinising payslips and superannuation statements.

Australian Unity has invited suggestions on how systems can be improved and the CPSU NSW encourages you to let us know your ideas so that they can be conveyed to the employer.

We will continue to keep members updated.
