Southern Cross University job cuts: disastrous for our members and regional economies

Job Cuts – Oct 2020 (PDF version)

The CPSU NSW opposes the job cuts proposed by Southern Cross University (SCU) and is fighting to protect your interests at this difficult time.

Your union notes that job cuts in regional economies affect everyone – our members, their families, and the local economy.

Southern Cross University is one of the largest employers in northern NSW and a reduction of the university workforce will be particularly damaging.

The CPSU NSW is aware that the best way to protect your interests is to ensure meaningful consultation in relation to any change proposal.

At the Joint Consultative Forum held on 21 October 2020, the CPSU NSW advised SCU that the Change Proposal did not comply with the Enterprise Agreement consultation provisions, and that it could not engage in meaningful consultation until further information is provided.

The CPSU NSW wrote to SCU on 22 October 2020 seeking further information and advising that the consultation timeframe should not commence until such information is provided. You can see the letter HERE. The CPSU NSW will inform members as soon as further information is available.

Your union thanks members for their engagement to date and invites you to raise any concerns that you have in relation to the proposed restructure.
