CPSU NSW and Life Without Barriers Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) meeting update

JCC Update – Oct 2020 (PDF version)

Your CPSU NSW representatives attended a Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) meeting on 14 September 2020. A variety of ongoing issues were canvased with Life Without Barriers (LWB); these include:

COVID-19

Most safety measures are evolving and depend on the advice from NSW Health; however, we were advised:

  • temperature checks were occurring for everyone entering the group homes
  • there are restrictions on visitors
  • staff are to wear masks
  • Casual employees are limited to working in two group homes. The CPSU NSW strongly advises its members to declare and seek approval from LWB for any secondary employment
  • As part of LWB contingency plans a new/updated template was released to assist LWB in its response and actions to COVD-19
  • Mandatory training for staff in Donning & Doffing and Keeping People Infection Free is still occurring. There are only a number of staff yet to complete these sessions. If you have completed these training sessions, please liaise with your Team Leaders.

Review of Team Leader shifts

LWB reported it will be assessing the shifts undertaken by Team Leaders, looking to determine what the operational needs of each group home is. There were concerns raised that some Team Leaders are not working a range of shifts to ensure the operational needs of the homes are met.

Former ADHC staff transfer

Former ADHC staff can only transfer to ADHC transferred group homes. Whilst not ideal, transferred group homes are currently siloed from the other LWB areas; this includes your payroll systems. If you were to transfer to non-transferred group homes in LWB, LWB is required to keep you employed under the copied State Award.
