The CPSU NSW representing you

The CPSU NSW representing you – August 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a massive impact on the University sector. As the union exclusively representing university Professional Staff, the CPSU NSW is committed to working with the sector to support a world-class, sustainable and successful higher education industry in Australia.

During this difficult time we have sensibly and pragmatically sat down with each University in an attempt to tailor local solutions to fit its circumstances. Unfortunately this approach was not always supported by other industry stakeholders, and has seen less than ideal outcomes.

We believe urgent action is required by state and federal governments to protect, support, reposition and grow all our public universities. Without this, critical Australian research, innovation and training will suffer and thousands of direct and indirect jobs will be lost across the economy. We are of the view that the Federal Government must urgently provide additional funding, to the higher education sector that will enable them to continue to play their vital role in our community. In particular, that the cap on domestic student numbers be lifted and that because all Universities has been impacted by a reduction in revenue because of COVID-19 that the JobKeeper Scheme be extended to them.

We continue to lobby government and politicians of all political persuasions for a better deal for universities.
