Australia Needs TAFE. Keep It Public campaign launch

Campaign Launch – Aug 2020 (PDF version)

CPSU NSW members are invited to attend the Australia Needs TAFE. Keep It Public campaign launch on Thursday 13 August 2020 at 1pm via Zoom. Register HERE.

The COVID-19 pandemic has transformed our state. Jobs have been lost, hours cut, and pay and work practices changed significantly. NSW unions want to see a Jobs Plan as part of reconstructing the state’s economy. This plan as all about creating secure jobs, guaranteeing secure income for casuals, addressing underemployment and investing in skills and training for the future. Working women have been disproportionally impacted by the pandemic. TAFE vocational education must address this problem. The failed NSW Smart and Skilled policy must be scrapped.

TAFE must be at the centre of this Jobs Plan by providing high quality vocational education in metropolitan, regional, rural colleges and digital platforms.

For TAFE NSW to be central to this recovery it must be:

  • Fully funded by government
  • Free for students
  • At the heart of building a COVID and post COVID-19 economy, boosting careers in areas such as child care, aged care, disability services and hospitality
  • At the centre of training for an environmentally sustainable future
  • Modern, with up-to-date facilities, innovative research facilities and permanent and well-supported staff. That is done in consultation with the relevant unions.
