UNSW cool on NTEU/AHIEA National Framework Agreement

Professors Ian Jacobs and Anne Simmons have written to university staff to confirm UNSW will not be adopting the NTEU/AHIEA so-called National Jobs Protection Framework.

While the CPSU NSW cautiously welcomed the decision, and the opportunity to work with UNSW and our NTEU colleagues locally to discuss tailored and practical cost-reduction measures to support sustainability and jobs, we are concerned by the strong implication from UNSW that the framework would be too inflexible and stifle restructuring.

We expect to meet with UNSW again in the coming days to clarify the university’s decision on the framework and future discussions.

The CPSU NSW believes UNSW, as one of Australia’s premiere public universities, retains an enviable corporate reputation and will emerge strongly in a post-pandemic market. We hope to work constructively with all stakeholders to ensure this success.
